Domaining Brainstorm Session with Jonathan Mizel

It was a busy week at DomainFest… I love the energy of being around fellow domainers.

I had a chance to conduct several awesome video interviews and am in the process of editing and uploading them to youtube.

Here’s Part 1 of a brainstorming session I had with legendary internet marketing expert, Jonathan Mizel. It’s too bad we didn’t have a reality TV crew following us around (that’s a great idea for someone to do at one of these conferences) because it seemed we had new insights every few minutes.

DomainFest Domain Name Auction Day 1

3:19 am on 23 January 2008 | No responses

The Domainfest Snapnames.com Live Domain Name Auction Day 1 just finished.

I think it was smart to break the sale into 2 days. But, it might have been smarter to shorten the name list.

I noticed a significant decrease in the crowd after about the first hour and a half.

Surprising sales: MintCoins.com for $15,000;
JobFacts.com for $7,500.

A smart sale: the reserve price on ForexGuides.com was $1.00. It ended up selling for $4,000.

I shot some video of the auction and will post it when I return home.

I also shot an interview between Jonathan Mizel and I on domaining and Moniker.com Vice Presisdent Victor Pitts on Domain Name Valuation and Auction acceptance. I’ll get those posted as soon as I can.

Stay Safe.

Making the Transition from Real Estate to Virtual Real Estate

4:03 am on 09 January 2008 | 3 responses

One of the many benefits to attending a live domain name conference and auction event is the ability to meet fellow domainers.

In meeting fellow domainers, one of the trends I’ve noticed is the number of traditional real estate investors that have made the transition to investing in virtual real estate – they now invest in domain names.

So as a domaining educator and lawyer I ask myself: “what makes investing in domain names so attractive to traditional real estate investors?”

As with most things, the best answer is the one that is most obvious. There are remarkable similarities between real estate investing and domain name investing. Similarities that make the transition both easy and attractive.

Let me explain.

3 Common Mistakes Beginning Domainers Make

7:06 am on 05 January 2008 | 19 responses

My experience as a lawyer and educator in the field of domaining (http://www.domainsintodollars.com) has shown me that there are three common mistakes beginning domainers make that sabotage their success in this business:

1. They don’t think about the source of domain name traffic;
2. They don’t take advantage of tasting and testing; and
3. They don’t think through the appreciation profit model.

Let’s explore these mistakes and hopefully prevent you from making them.
